Guidelines for the patients.
- 1. For blood sugar (Fasting) sample: 8-10 hours of fasting (No food intake) is required. i. Water intake is allowed.
- 2. For Blood sugar (PP) : Blood sample should be given 2 hours after proper meals.
- 3. Blood sugar (Random) : Can be given any time of the day irrespective of time of last meals.
- 4. Note: Diabetic patients already taking medicines should take their medicine as usual on the day of testing.
- 5. Urine routine: First morning sample is preferred, though not mandatory. Midstream urine sample is collected
- 6. Urine Culture: First morning sample is preferred, but not mandatory. First clean the genital area with soap and water,then give midstream sample.
- 7. Lipid Profile: 10-12 hours of fasting is required.Water intake is allowed.
- 8. Thyroid sample – Fasting is not required.If person is taking thyroid medicine, he/she should take it on the day of testing too.
- 9. Lithium: Sample to be given 12 hours after last dose.
- 10. Prothrombin time: Kindly provide the history if taking anticoagulant medicines.

What is a Pap Smear examination?
A Pap Smear is a microscopic examination of the cells scraped from the opening of the cervix. Cervix is the lowermost part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. It is a screening test for cervical cancer. Cancer of the cervix is the most common cancer in females in India and is totally preventable. It can be detected in very early stages if women undergo routine pap smear examinations.
